General objectives of the program
Within the Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Faculties at the University of Barcelona, several research groups conduct research into engineering. Research in Engineering features distinctive traits such as the possibility for technology transfer, the applied nature of the research and the possibility to transform the research into actual products in the medium to long term. This research program aims to train high-level researchers. At the end of their doctoral studies, students will have a high potential to get involved in R&D activities in the public and private sectors. During the PhD program the students will acquire a theoretical and practical background in their research theme, as well as transversal skills needed for product development and manufacturing process optimization. Students will be able to address research challenges in areas like Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Chemical and Material Engineering.

Specific requirements and criteria for admission to the doctoral program and applicant merit rating
The body responsible for admission to the research period of the program is the Studies Committee for the program. In all cases, for admission to the doctoral program candidates must have successfully completed at least 300 ECTS credits, between bachelor's degree and university master's degree studies .
In principle, credit will be given for having completed the master's courses which give access to this doctoral program. In the case of students coming from abroad or from other universities in this country, the Studies Committee for the doctoral program will study and decide on applications for admission to the program depending on the training completed, its appropriateness to the lines of research in the program and the candidate's academic transcript.
