General objectives of the program
- Foster the ability to conceive, design and implement research processes that enable scientific, technological and social progress in areas such as didactics, educational organisation and assessment, teacher training, citizenship and values, psycho-pedagogical guidance and intervention, teaching and learning in the digital society, and socio-educational intervention and social work.
- To foster the ability to contribute to the expansion of available knowledge in one of these areas through original research.
 
Specific requirements and criteria for admission to the doctoral program and applicant merit rating
ACCESS PROFILE AND SPECIFIC ADMISSION CRITERIA

In addition to the generic criteria derived from current regulations, the Academic Commission of the Programme considers that candidates must respond to the following profile and the following specific requirements:

Access: recommended profile
To be in possession of a degree in Pedagogy, Psychopedagogy, Social Education or Social Work or related degrees and a master's degree in education or related fields.
To demonstrate basic knowledge and skills in the design and development of educational and / or social research processes and an advanced level of reading comprehension in English or French.

Admission criteria
In addition to the general admission requirements, the Academic Commission of the Programme establishes the following merits and specific criteria:

1. Access from the following UB master's degrees: Research and Educational Change, Citizenship and Values Education, Management of Teaching Centers, Teacher training in Adult Education, Digitally mediated learning environments, Social and Educational Action, Youth and Society and Psychopedagogy.

2. From other related masters, in accordance with the specificity of the candidate's studies and their suitability with the research lines of the programme.

3. For foreign students, a level of understanding of Catalan and / or Spanish equivalent to the Diploma of Spanish (Intermediate Level) or B1 (Catalan).

4. Level of comprehension equivalent to B1 of one of the most widely used foreign languages in the programme’s scope of activity, particularly English or French.

The selection and admission of the students will be carried out by the Academic Commission of the Programme in accordance with the following evaluation table:

1. Access degree (between 0 and 4 points), based on the following criteria:

a) From the following masters of the UB (4 points):
Research and Educational Change, Citizenship and Values Education, Management of Teaching Centers, Teacher training in Adult Education, Digitally mediated learning environments, Social and Educational Action, Youth and Society, Teacher training in obligatory secondary school (Educational Orientation) and Psychopedagogy.
b) Other related masters, valuing between 0 and 2 points the specificity of the candidate's studies and their suitability with the research lines of the Programme.

2. Academic record of the degree that gives access (between 0 and 1 point, depending on the average grade).

3. Master’s academic record (between 0 and 2 points, depending on the average grade).

4. Letter of intent with a research proposal (up to 2 points).

5. Curriculum vitae (up to 4 points), valuing:

a) Previous research experience in any of the research lines of the programme. Publications and participation in conferences are also considered (up to 2 points).
b) Previous professional experience in any of the areas to which the theoretical and practical teaching of the doctoral programme is oriented (up to 1 point).
c) Complementary training: Other master's degrees and postgraduate degrees (up to 1 point).

6. Other research, academic, and professional merits (up to 2 points).

The ultimate aim of the programme is to prepare professionals for research in the fields of education and social intervention. Critical individuals with the ability to contribute, through scientific study, to improving the quality of education and promoting favourable attitudes towards change and collaboration. It is considered that in a globalised context it is necessary to train specialists with a high research and academic level, prepared to analyse and understand educational and social changes in all their dimensions, in order to provide scientific responses to the educational and social needs of the contemporary world.
